The Bushwhacker -Your Cocktail for the Weekend

I was first introduced to the Bushwhacker during a New Year’s Eve vacation in St. Thomas.  Here’s a warning — this is a heavy drink.  But, if you like milk shakes and you have a sweet tooth, you will love the Bushwhacker.

It sounds like this drink originated in St. Thomas.  However, in 1975 the Sandshaker in Pensacola, FL started serving a version to their customers and it became hugely popular.

Here’s a recipe if you want to make your own Bushwacker:

4 oz Cream of Coconut

2 oz. Kahlua

1 oz Dark Rum

1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao

4 oz Milk

Blend with two cups of ice in a blender until smooth and well mixed.  Serves two.

Enjoy!

Alternatively, here’s a different recipe where the bartender teaches you how to make a bushwacker as an ice cream float.  Be warned…it’s a strong one!

Please drink responsibly.  Don’t drive (your car or your boat) if you’ve been drinking.
