Gearing Up for a Night Race

Next weekend is the Solomon’s Island race.  It’s a feeder race to get boats from Annapolis to Solomon’s Maryland in advance of the following week’s Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge regatta.   This will be my first night race of the season.  So, it’s time to go through my sailing gear and make sure that my essentials are in order for night sailing.  I consider the things below to be necessary for night sailing — partially because stuff is more difficult and takes […]

Time for New Sailing Shoes : )

OK, I can’t deny it any longer.  It’s time for new sailing shoes.  About four years ago, I had a pair of sailing shoes that I loved.  They were comfortable, gripped the deck well, didn’t make your feet too hot in the summer, and they looked good to.   The only problem is that Sebago stopped making them : (  Ever since then, it’s been a tough job to buy new boat shoes.  I keep hoping I’ll find a pair […]

Favorite Flip Flops

Let’s talk about flip flops : ) For at least six months out of the year, I spend most of my time in flip flops when I’m not wearing racing shoes.  So, in my mind, it’s really important to have good flip flops.  And, I might suggest having more than just ONE pair — just a suggestion 😉 .  For a long time, I wore Reef flip flops and loved them.  They are comfortable, inexpensive, and the foam footbed molds […]

Eco-Armour . . . Products You Never Knew You Needed

During the Annapolis Sailboat show, I came across a product that I didn’t know I needed.  Eco-Armour makes a line of botanical products using natural and organic ingredients.  The one that caught my eye was the mosquito repelling body spray & moisturizer.  Eco-Armour founder Robert Benzinger was sharing a sample of the product and also letting visitors know that it repels black flies, as well as, mosquitos.    I’ve spent many hot summer days racing or cruising when black flies […]

SailFast — Gotta Love It!

During my visit to the Annapolis Sailboat show in October, I stopped at the SailFast booth and purchased a couple of products that I’ve fallen in love with.  First, I got the SailFast Sailcloth Tote.  It’s ruggedly made out of sailcloth remnants that have been rescued from the sail loft instead of being sent to the trash.  The size is perfect — I can fill it to the gills and the heavy duty zipper still reliably zips.  It’s large enough […]
