Stay Hydrated & Keep Your Drink Cold

I write this post in the spirit of the warm sunny weekend weather.  Whatever your drink of choice, it’s SO important to stay hydrated.  Its even more enjoyable when your drink stays cold on a hot day.

I have a bunch of water bottles — the Sigg metal ones and the plastic ones.  However, I started looking for a bottle where the drinking surface is covered by an additional lid.  This is actually driven by some kayaking that I’ve been doing lately.  I don’t want icky bay water washing over the surface that I drink from.  I’ve even heard that a friend got sick from contaminated river water getting into his hydration pack drinking spout when it dipped into the water.  Anyhow,  here’s what I’m talking about.  This is the style that I chose for my new water bottle.

A while back, Nicole introduced us to the Cruisey.  They look fun for after the race.  They will keep your drink cold, but also have a strap.  So, you can tack the boat or take down the sails without spilling your drink.

Tervis Tumblers have been a favorite in my family for a long time.  They’re unbreakable, but I also like the fact that you can put them in the dishwasher.

I’ve seen a lot of different methods of organizing drinks on boats.  One boat used a portable cooler with beer on the left and water / Gatorade on the right.  That way, crew members could always find the type of drink they were looking for in a hurry.  Another boat had the soft sided cooler with iPod speakers built into it.  There is one other thing that I can tell you — A Heineken mini keg will fit perfectly in the ice box of a Farr 30 with just enough room for ice.  Make sure that the seas aren’t too rough.  Otherwise, you’ll get really foamy beer.

Stay hydrated and enjoy your time out on the water!
