Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess

This weekend, I was looking for some ways to bring new life into my gym work out.  After raiding my bookshelf, I was reminded of a favorite from a few years ago — The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler with Cassandra Forsythe, and Alwyn Cosgrove.  This book that was recommended by my personal trainer at the time.  I liked it because it makes a lot of sense to me.  Please note: this book is NOT written specifically for power lifters or body builders.  It is for people who want to work out to build strength, confidence and healthy habits – not for the purpose of bulking up.

The book starts by going through the science of how muscles work and grow.  That leads into topics about nutrition — including a bunch of really good, easy to prepare recipes.  It then leads into seven stages of gym work outs.  Each work out tells you what exercise to do, how many reps to do for each exercise and how many times to do each workout in a given stage.  It even tells you when you should take time off to rest.  It is based on three work outs per week.  The last section of the book includes detailed instruction about hwo to perform each of the exercises included in the work outs.  This includes photos, as well as variations to increase of lessen the intensity of each exercise.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.  If you’re interested, you can check it out through the following link:
